Trail Work Day - Ever wondered what it takes to build a hiking trail? Elk Knob State Park has trail workdays every Saturday beginning at 9am and lasting until 3pm we welcome the public to come and work with our park staff to complete the park's summit trail. No experience is needed. This beautiful trail is approximately 1.5 miles finished with about a half mile left to go bringing its completed distance to 2 miles long, and ending at the summit of Elk Knob with a view that is spectacular.  If you would like to work on the trail please meet at the trail head by 9am Saturday mornings and bring with you plenty of water and a lunch or snacks. You MUST wear covered-toed shoes (no sandals or flip flops will be allowed when working on the trail), and we ask you also bring work gloves (leather preferred). Because the weather at Elk Knob can change very quickly from warm to cold or dry to rainy you may also want to bring a jacket or clothing to prepare for different weather conditions. We do not work in hard rains or severe weather conditions. If you have any further questions or have a group you would like to have come and work on the trail during a week day or a specific weekend please call the park office 828-297-7261.
