An alleged dispute over money turned deadly in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Nov. 11, as 46-year-old William Eugene Sprinkle of North Wilkesboro was shot and killed.
According to Steve Cabe, Captain of Detectives for the Wilkes County Sheriff's Department, Sprinkle went to the residence of 25-year-old Courtney Neil Scott (pictured), located at 118 Beginning Street in Millers Creek, at approximately 1 a.m.
Cabe said that Scott allegedly "owed someone in Sprinkle's family some money ... an altercation occurred and Scott shot Sprinkle one time with a small-caliber hand gun." Another person at the residence then called 911.
Emergency personnel "started CPR and took the victim to Wilkes Regional Hospital," Cabe said. Sprinkle died at the hospital.
Scott is currently being held at the Wilkes County Jail without bond. According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, Scott was convicted of robbery with a dangerous weapon in 2002 and served the minimum term of three years and two months before being released in December of 2005.
